David “Dave” Paul Simpson of Decatur, 80,  died on Saturday, March 23, 2019, surrounded by his family.

Raised in Litchfield, Mr. Simpson graduated from Litchfield High School in 1957 and attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

He was a successful entrepreneur in the footwear industry while living in various cities in Texas, but eventually returned to his home and ran Simpson’s Shoes until moving to Decatur in 2003.

Mr. Simpson loved life, and his passions included golfing, fishing, playing cards with his friends, and the St. Louis Cardinals, but most of all, he loved his family. The love and laughter and joy he brought to his family will leave an undeniable void in their lives but the memories of him will provide peace and never-ending comfort.

In addition to his wife, Peggy, he is survived by six children, Teresa Donahoe, Sheri Brown, Gary Simpson, Micki Young, Kim Entler and Amy Hoyle; his brother Hal (wife Fran) Simpson and 32 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ida Simpson, his sister Sue Helgen, infant daughter, Lisa and infant grandson, Andrew Donahoe.

The family will have a private memorial service and suggests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.act.alz.org or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
