Diane Maloney, 72

Diane (Vandever) Maloney, 72, died on Monday, Nov. 9, 2020, in Rome, GA, following a brief illness.

A memorial service will be held at a later date due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Ms. Maloney was born Sept. 18, 1948, in Hillsboro, to Edmond and Irene Vandever.

She grew up in Nokomis and graduated from Nokomis High School. She then enrolled at Southern Illinois University, majoring in retail marketing and fashion design.

Ms. Maloney and her family attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Nokomis, and her grandfather, A.E. Vandever, was a founder and owner of the Nokomis Free Press Progress until his retirement. Many of the family worked for the newspaper over the subsequent years.

She will always be remembered as a beautiful, caring and loving person who was always smiling and a friend to all.

Ms. Maloney is survived by her daughters, Kimberly (Tony) Dentice and Caroline (Mark) Lyle; sons, Shane (Jennifer) Maloney and Jonathan (Leigh) Maloney; sisters, Mary Jo Hand, Nancy Vandever and Debbie Vandever; brothers, Michael Vandever and Ronald Vandever; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Sue Vandever and Tammy Vandever.
