Don Frederick Snyder, 88, of Litchfield, died on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at 5:10 a.m. in HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Private family services will be conducted Saturday, March 21, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. In lieu of a visitation, please send cards with a special note or memory to Mrs. Snyder and family to 710 East Henrichs Street, Litchfield, IL 62056.

Mr. Snyder was born Jan. 27, 1932, in Millersville, to Don Hilton and Lydia Elizabeth (Betty) Snyder. He married Marcia Marilyn Kasten on June 16, 1957, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Carlinville, and she survives.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Zelima during the Korean War. He went on to farm in Raymond, Carlinville and Zanesville Township in Montgomery and Macoupin counties.

Mr. Snyder was a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Raymond, where he served as deacon for over 30 years, and recently attended Christian Church of Litchfield. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau, Senior Citizens group and the American Legion Post #299 in Raymond.

He served on the Zanesville Township Board and was the director of Macoupin County Mutual Insurance.

Mr. Snyder received the greatest family award and was the winner of the greatest father contest. An avid Cardinal’s fan, he enjoyed farming, going to dances with his wife of 62 years, family vacations and attending his grandchildren’s events.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Patty (John) Fletcher of Raymond, Beth (Dan) Martin and Shelley (Lynn) Weitekamp, both of Farmersville, Kristi (Nick) Zakula of Mt. Prospect and Tonya Flannery of Litchfield; son-in-law, Todd Thomas of Farmersville; 13 grandchildren, Lacy (Lerisee) Lucien, Dustin (Coletta) Fletcher, Dane (Brittney) Fletcher, Danielle (Chase) Koontz, Brett Martin, Lance (Katylain) Weitekamp, Landon (Courtney) Weitekamp, Kevin Thomas, Kyle Thomas, Katelyn Thomas, Zachary Zakula, Allison Zakula and Grace Flannery; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Snyder was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Renee Thomas; four brothers, Eugene Snyder, Myron Snyder, Ray Snyder and Bill Snyder; and three sisters, Mabel Winstead, Jane Lowrey and Linda Satterlee.

Memorials may be directed to the American Legion Post #299 in Raymond, Shriners Hospitals for Children in St. Louis or Christian Church of Litchfield.
