Donald “Bumps” Lee Meyer,  80, of Witt died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023 at Litchfield Health and Rehab.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21 at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Pastor Kevin Cook officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Witt. Military rites will be accorded at graveside by Department of Defense.

Mr. Meyer was born Feb. 6, 1943, in Hillsboro to Vernon and Agnes (Bogle) Meyer. He married Sally Satterlee on Nov. 13, 1966, in Las Vegas, and she survives.

Mr. Meyer graduated in 1961 from Witt High School and attended college at Lincoln Land Community College. He lived in the area his entire life either in Nokomis or Witt.

Mr. Meyer was in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967 and was a Vietnam veteran. He worked for Illinois Consolidated as a repairman and technician from 1968 to 1995. He also helped John and Phil Speiser farm and worked for the city of Witt after retirement.

He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, Witt Lions Club for 50 years, IBEW local union member.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and mushroom hunting. Mr. Meyer was a huge Illini basketball fan and St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Meyer is survived by children, Rick (wife Rebecca Harley) Meyer of Decatur, Paula (husband Loren) Bergman of Swansea,  Amy (husband Terry) Conway of Colorado Springs, CO and five grandchildren, Daniella Conway, Tristan Bergman, Emma Harley, Samuel Conway and Elizabeth Harley. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Meyer.
