Donna 'D.K.' Elmore, 59

CMSgt (Ret) Donna “D.K.” Elmore, 59, of Springfield, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at 5:52 p.m. at her home.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Laible officiating. Private family burial will be held in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Illinois COVID-19 guidelines will be followed for all ceremonies, requiring face coverings and limiting attendance to 50 guests.

Mrs. Elmore was born Feb. 24, 1961, in Litchfield, the daughter of Kenneth and LaDonna (Bedinghaus) Rosenthal. She married James Elmore on Dec. 31, 1984, at Knox Presbyterian Church and they remarried at Little Flower Church in Springfield.

A 1979 graduate of Morrisonville High School, she proudly served over 23 years in the United States Air Force Illinois National Guard, where she was the Chief of Personnel at the time of her retirement in 2003.  She also worked part-time at Lincoln Greens Golf Course.

She enjoyed bowling  on several leagues, playing softball with the Air National Guard Ladies team, spending time with her family and traveling.

In addition to her husband,  CMSgt (Ret) James Elmore, she is survived by sons, Joshua (wife Kristin) Elmore of Glen Carbon and Jason Elmore of Springfield; stepson, Sgt (USMC) James (wife Stephanie) Elmore of Springfield; stepdaughters, Nancy (husband Bob) Masten and Susan (husband Ray) Giberson, both of Springfield, Terri (husband Frank) Pallazallo of North Carolina, and Tammy Knowel of Ohio; grandchildren, Gary Elmore, Brayden Masten, Hannah Fields and Sydney (husband Connor) Davidson; stepgrandson, Justin (wife Jona) Elmore; great-granddaughter, Mia; father, Kenneth Rosenthal of Morrisonville; siblings, BG (Ret) Wayne (wife Marcia) Rosenthal of Morrisonville, David (companion Kathy Foster) Rosenthal of Taylorville, CMSgt (Ret) Diana (husband MSgt (Ret) Allyn) Braun of Edgerton, WI, Nancy (husband Jeff) Hessel of Edwardsville, Angela (husband John) Christian of Taylorville and TSgt (Ret) Jon (wife Phyllis) Rosenthal of Morrisonville, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and cousins.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by grandson, Jakob Fields; stepdaughter, Lori Morris; and sister, Carolyn Rosenthal.
