I recently heard that the Litchfield City Council has been discussing the closure of Library Park. As a former resident and "native son," this fills me with some dismay, and I urge the council to reject any such proposal.
I had the pleasure of visiting my home town this past weekend, and the greater pleasure of playing Pokemon Go with my young niece in Library Park in the cool of the evening. I saw people of all ages walking around, playing the game, and enjoying the cool of the evening. It was the most activity I'd seen at night in downtown Litchfield in quite some time.
I can only assume that the city council is concerned about people walking the streets in the evening. But isn't that what we, as adults, want for the children of our city? To be out enjoying the outdoors, interacting with people from all walks of life, rather than sitting in front of the television or computer?
