Doris Lucille (DeWerff) Smith, 97, of Nokomis, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 11:05 p.m. at Nokomis Rehab and Healthcare in Nokomis.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Nokomis. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the church.  Burial will be held in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.  Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Mrs. Smith was born on May 6, 1922, in Rountree Township, to Hilda Meyer and George DeWerff. She married Kenneth Smith on Sept. 12, 1995, and he preceded her in death.

She graduated from St. Paul’s Lutheran School and then went on to cosmetology school. She owned and operated her own shop, Shamrock Beauty Shop for many years.  

A member of B and PW Club, she bowled for years. She loved to quilt and made beautiful quilts for her nieces and nephews. She also quilted for years with St. Paul’s Ladies Aid, who sent quilts to the Orphan Grain Train and Lutheran World Relief.

She is survived by her nieces,  Judith (Daniel) Ognoskie of Wilton, IA,  and Diane (Blayne) Hill and nephew, David (Karol) DeWerff, both of Nokomis; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin DeWerff in 1983.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
