Dorothy June Schmidt, 91, of Litchfield, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, at 1:18 a.m. at her home.
Private family funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 31, at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with the Rev. Fred Kraemer officiating. Burial will be held in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Due to the pandemic, there will be no public showing. Her service will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend. The link for the live-stream video will be posted on the Plummer Funeral Services website closer to the service date.
Mrs. Schmidt was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Litchfield, a daughter of Steven Oliver and Violet June (Clayton) Mitchell. She married Hans R. Schmidt on Feb. 20, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, and he preceded her in death on March 31, 2002.
She and her husband owned and operated Schmidt Motor Sales for over 40 years. Her main focus was to be a wife, mother and homemaker. Earlier jobs included the Coca Cola Bottling plant and a bookkeeper for the Saratoga Club.
A member of Zion Lutheran Church, she was active in the Zion Ladies Aid, PTA and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of Zonta International. She enjoyed bowling, and she and her husband were charter members of the Litchfield Boat and Ski Club.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis (Sue Reynolds) Schmidt of East Lansing, MI, and Dean (Debbie Hitchings) Schmidt of Litchfield; one daughter, Diane (Murl) Stockamp of Columbia, MO; nine grandchildren, Ryan Stockamp, Julie (Stockamp) Bell, Laura Stockamp, Stephanie (Schmidt) Haman, Lindsey (Schmidt) Beaubien, David Schmidt, Travis Stephens, Troy Stephens and Samantha Brown; nine great-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Mitchell and Maurice Mitchell, and step-grandson, Jordan Storm.
