Dorothy J. Smith, 86, of Staunton, died at 1:41 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at her residence.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Martin officiating. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. Williamson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Smith was born on Dec. 16, 1936, in Mortons Gap, KY, the daughter of the late Delmas E. and Clara Grace (Cotton) Shanks. She married Carl V. “Buss” Smith on Oct. 9, 1953, in East St. Louis, and he preceded her in death on June 10, 2006.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker who loved being with her family and going camping. In her younger years, she loved to work alongside her husband in the church helping in Children’s Church or decorating the church for events or dinners. She loved doing crafts and making flower arrangements.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Dena) Smith of Sorento and David (Brenda) Smith of Staunton; grandchildren, Rebecca Smith of Staunton, Cari (Lance) Banchi of Sorento, Michael (Hannah) Smith of Staunton and Cory (Tiffany) Smith of Sorento; great-grandchildren, Cody and Delaney Smith, and future great-grandson, Waylon Smith; sister, Faye (Marvin) Rickey of Livingston; nieces, Lisa (Gary) Langley, Donna (Mike) Kehoe and Nancy (Bill) Novakoski; and several great- nieces and great-nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
