Dorothy M. Deibert, age 91 of Highland, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, with the Rev. William E. Kapp, pastor of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland.

Mrs. Deibert was born on Sunday, Feb. 7, 1932, in Highland, the daughter of Orville and Pearl (nee Maurer) Strebel. She was a 1950 graduate of Highland High School. On Saturday, Dec. 12, 1959, she married Clarence W. Deibert at E & R Church, Grantfork, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on Saturday, May 28, 2016.

She worked at the Brown Shoe Company office, Kayser Drug Store, Belleville Journal newspaper and Pamida in Belleville. After her marriage, she stayed at home with her children and helped her husband with the farm they had purchased. She was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital, a Madison County election judge and a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ.

Mrs. Deibert enjoyed bowling, doing needlepoint and reading books by John Grisham and Sidney Sheldon. She especially enjoyed the time she spent walking with her long-time friend, Carol Hundsdorfer.

Mrs. Deibert is survived by her children, daughter Nancy A. (Stephen) Casper of Highland and sons James S. Deibert of Trenton and John D. (significant other Jennifer Pfister) Deibert of Highland; grandchildren Daniel T. (significant other Justine Ulrich) Deibert of St. Louis, MO, Jeremy S. (significant other Tami Jakel) Goebel of Highland, Jennifer M. Morstain of Alton, Laura A. (Jason) Reiling of Highland, Andrew S. (significant other Sheri Allen) Casper of Highland and Emily M. (significant other Adam Elliott) Casper of Pocahontas; great-grandchildren Abigail L. Casper of Highland, Allison E. Reiling of Highland, Kaleigh E. Casper of Highland, Laynei A. Casper of Highland and Ruby M. Goebel.

She was preceded in death by her father Orville J. Strebel on Dec. 24, 1988, mother Pearl L. (nee Maurer) Strebel on May 3, 2009,  husband Clarence W. "Wuzzey" Deibert on May 28, 2016, her  first husband Dennis P. Haller on Sept. 2, 1956, daughter-in-law Maria (nee Steinman) Deibert on Aug. 3, 2015, and sister Judith A. Ernst on Nov. 18, 2008.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland.
