Dorothy Marie Knight, 90, of Greenville, died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020, at her daughter’s home in Greenville, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Nov. 9, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Greenville with Father Allan Hunter officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Greenville, where she will be laid to rest next her husband, parents and brothers. Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville assisted the family.

Mrs. Knight was born Aug. 25, 1930, in St. Louis, MO, to Alma Homer and Marie Cora (Bucholz) Sullivan. She married Guy Lawrence Knight on July 8, 1950, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in St. Louis, MO, and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2018.

She was raised on the family farm near Greenville, and attended Inglis School and Little Hickory School. The family moved to Bingham to farm, and she graduated from Ramsey High School with the class of 1948. She then attended Eastern Illinois University and took a job in St. Louis, MO, where she met her husband.

Mrs. Knight and her husband lived near Fillmore and later moved to Cahokia. They eventually moved to Greenville in 1970 to be closer to her parents. She worked at the elementary and junior high schools for over 18 years before retiring in 1993.

She was known as a loving and caring woman who had a deep and loving relationship with her Lord and the Blessed Mother. She prayed daily and taught others how to pray. She possessed such great faith that never faltered, and loved all unconditionally.

Mrs. Knight’s deep passion were the Rosary and the babies, born and unborn. She worked hard to protect the unborn because she believed every baby was a gift from God. A single red rose or a handmade Rosary, in which she sent to many, was her signature. “A single red rose says it all,” was her way of saying you are loved and in God’s hands. She was a humble servant of the Lord.

She is survived by her seven children, Harold (Dawn) Knight, Bob (Patty) Knight, Chris (Ray) Moddrell, Kathy Henderson, Steve (Patty) Knight, Theresa (Warren) Dissen and Glen (Juliane) Knight; 24 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Robert Edward Sullivan in infancy and Harold Lee Sullivan at age 16.

Memorials may be directed to the Pregnancy Support Center in Greenville or Bond County Hospice.
