Dorothy Mae (Varner) Bomkamp, 95, of Carlinville, died on Friday, June 5, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Mt. Olive.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, June 12, at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville. Burial followed in New Calvary Cemetery in Carlinville. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bomkamp was born on Sept. 18, 1930, in Litchfield, a daughter of Shirley Varner and Anna (Flynn) Varner. She graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1948. She married Robert Bomkamp on Nov. 26, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlinville. He preceded her in death and she later married Leonard J. Bomkamp in November of 1997 at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death.
She was a hard working woman and had many careers starting as a hairdresser for ten years in Sullivan. Then she became the administrator for Staunton Health and Rehabilitation Center for five years. She continued her journey of care-taking as the secretary for St. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Gillespie where she finally retired. She had a strong faith and was a member of Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church and their Alter and Rosary Society. Outside of her faith, she enjoyed other things like playing piano and crocheting.
Mrs. Bomkamp is survived by her son, Keith (Carolyn) Bomkamp of Wood River; daugther, Camelia Bomkamp of Mt. Olive; stepsons, Daniel Bomkamp of Carlinville, Patrick (Beth) Bomkamp of Evansville, IN, Jeffrey (Beth) Bomkamp of Huntsville, AL, Michael (Stacy) Bomkamp of Savannah, GA, Robert Bomkamp of Ft. Worth, TX and Thomas (Elizabeth) Bomkamp of Fate, TX; stepdaughters, Mary (Bill) Leyrer of Duncan, OK, and Rebecca (Carlos) Munguia of Chicago; six grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; and half-sister, Judy Thieson of Litchfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; daughter, Cecelia Crites; and grandsons-in-law, Robert Welch and Matthew Schwab.
