The Downtown Nokomis Association is gearing up for a "Christmas Carol Christmas In Nokomis" on Saturday, Dec. 14.
The holiday event will begin with the annual Christmas Parade at 10 a.m. Join Santa as he makes his way through Downtown Nokomis to the Masonic Lodge, for treats and pictures. Line up begins at 9:30 a.m. behind Nokomis City Hall. Contact the Downtown Nokomis Association, via Facebook, for information on how to participate.
Holiday shoppers can finish their Christmas lists during the vendor and craft fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors will be set up in the Emanti Center, the former Knights of Columbus Hall, at 115 South Spruce Street.
Carriage rides will be in operation from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. While the rides are free, donations are accepted. The beloved Christmas character the Grinch will be in attendance at Arturo's Pizzeria from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Make sure to check out the Cookie Contest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the S.A.A.D. Center. Attendees are encouraged to stop in to sample and vote for their favorite cookies. Contestants are asked to bring at least five dozen cookies, per entry, to the S.A.A.D. building between 8 and 9 a.m.
Participants may make Christmas ornament crafts, from 12:15 to 1 p.m. at Nokomis Gift and Garden Center, 123 Morgan Street. Ugly Mugs Cofeehouse, at 125 West State Street, will provide some more hands-on fun with gingerbread house decorating at 1 p.m.
The Nokomis Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Christmas window decorating contest, in conjunction with the upcoming Christmas festival. All windows must be decorated by Tuesday, Dec. 10. The Nokomis Chamber will judge the entries and award a $50 prize.
