Free wifi will soon be available in downtown Hillsboro this week, thanks to the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, Imagine Hillsboro, and CTI.
"We should be ready on Wednesday," CTI manager Dustin Jones said of the anticipated Feb. 5 start-up date.
The service will be available from the Montgomery County Courthouse south to the Veterans memorial. The 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week service will be free to connect to with no password required. Because of that, the CTI manager recommends prudence in how the free service is used.
"We wouldn't recommend putting anything sensitive out there," Jones said.
The free wifi project was financed by a $1,500 donation from the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and a $1,000 donation from the Imagine Hillsboro Tech Committee. CTI is donating the installation of the hardware and ongoing maintenance.
"Free Wifi" stickers will be in downtown windows where the service is available.
Jones said a second prong of the downtown free wifi–an access point at the new dog park–is already active.
