Duane Leigh Gerlach, 77, of Carlinville, formerly of Springfield and Litchfield, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021 at 10:46 a.m. at Carlinville Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Carlinville.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. The funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. The Rev. Paul Jones of Waggoner Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Woodwreath Cemetery in New Berlin.

Mr. Gerlach was born on April 25, 1944 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Gordon (Lyle) and Florence Naomi (Long) Gerlach. He married M. Bobette Pfeffer on Nov. 22, 1975 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Berlin.

Mr. Gerlach grew up in rural Waggoner and graduated from Farmersville High School and the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at MacDill Air Base in Florida.  He was a banker at First National Bank of Springfield for several years as Chief Lending Officer, then went to Warren-Boynton State Bank of New Berlin where he became president until his retirement.

Mr. Gerlach was past-president of the Springfield Boys & Girls Club board of directors. He loved to play golf, drive his corvettes, read, and visit his winter home in Vero Beach, FL.

He is survived by his mother, Naomi Gerlach of Virden; brother Steve (wife Pat) Gerlach of Waggoner; sister Kim (husband David) Jaeger of Waggoner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, and his wife, Bobette.
