Dwight Edward Hemken, 91, of Hillsboro, died on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 29, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hemken was born March 25, 1931, in Walshville, to William and Lillie Belle (Kitchen) Hemken. He married Joyce May Bentley on April 18, 1953, and she survives.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School and later F.W. Olin Vocational School and Boys State in 1947. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman 1st Class from 1949 to 1952.

Mr. Hemken was a bi-vocational minister and journeyman machinist. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. He umpired for high school baseball and announced for Hillsboro High School football.

In addition to his wife of over 69 years, he is survived by his children, the Rev. Jeff (Patty) Hemken of Phoenix, AZ, and Nancy (Reggie) Wood of Licking, MO; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Kenneth Hemken of Hillsboro.

Mr. Hemken was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathy Ann (Hemken) Blake; and siblings, Alice Jarman, John Fredrick “Fritz” Hemken, Martha Elizabeth (Key) Reed, Charles Leroy “Chike” Hemken and Dorothy L. “Dot” File.
