Hits were at a premium on Monday night in Palmyra, but the Greenfield-Northwestern Tigers would put together enough offense early on to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Morrisonville/Lincolnwood co-op team on April 22.
Morrisonville would get a run in the first on a home run by Dade Pitchford, but Greenfield-Northwestern would tie the game in the bottom of the first and score three times in the second to take the lead. The Tigers' run in the first would come without a hit as two errors and two hit batsmen led to the tying run coming across home plate.
Morrisonville would have their chances, but weren't able to plate any more runs until the top of the sixth inning. Kyle Bloome would stroke a two-out double to score Jhadyn Walker after Walker reached base on a dropped third strike.
The Mohawks would look to cut into the lead even further, but a strikeout by Tigers' starter Connor Bettis ended the inning.
Morrisonville would have the tying run at the plate in the seventh when Garrett Jones walked, but a fielders choice and a double play ended the threat and kept the Mohawks from win number seven on the year.
Sam Herman would have two of Lincolnwood's six hits, with Michael Jones, Kyle Bloome, Andrew Skinner and Dade Pitchford also getting hits.
Jones would pitch the first two innings and take the loss, despite allowing just three hits and two earned runs (four total), with a walk, a strikeout and two hit batsmen. Kyle Bloome would shut out the Tigers in the final four innings, giving up just two hits.
Now 6-11 on the season, Morrisonville will take on Okaw Valley on Thursday, April 25, followed by a home game against Nokomis on Friday, April 26.
