Edith Leona Simmons, 86, died on Friday, May 3, 2019, at her home in Brookstone Estates in Vandalia.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, from noon to 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Vandalia. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Dr. Ben Foxworth officiating. Interment will be at Green Hill Cemetery in Van Burensburg. 

Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia is assisting the family.

Mrs. Simmons was born on July 12, 1932, in Vandalia to the late Henry and Beulah (Caudry) Campbell. She married Floyd Simmons, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1992.

A homemaker, Mrs. Simmons worked at Majestic Drapery in Vandalia. She enjoyed knitting and sewing and was a faithful and devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Simmons is survived by one son, Ron Simmons of Vandalia; one son-in-law, Robert (wife Tammy) Hellmman of Vandalia; one daughter, Sandra Simmons of Alabama; brothers Malcolm Campbell and Vern Lanham; grandchildren, Derek Hellman, Ryan Hellman, Steve Simmons, Alan Paulding and Trevor Simmons; and one great-granddaughter.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Hellman; and siblings, Dorothy Fry, Kenneth Campbell, Vera Lanham, Ramonia Lanham and Wesley Lanham.
