Elbert “Elbo” Carl Grindley, 83, of Coffeen, died at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021 at his residence.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Olive Hill Cemetery in Coffeen.

Mr. Grindley was born Nov. 6. 1937 in rural Greenville, Lagrange Township, Bond County, to the late Harry W. Grindley and Ruby Estella (Jenkins) Grindley. He married Beverly Doyen on Feb 21, 1959. He worked in the Coffeen area driving a milk truck, running a custom baling business, working as a mechanic for Litchfield Bituminous, oiling and chipping roads,  and working on the drilling crew when the Coffeen coal mine was sunk. Mr. Grindley was also a member of the Coffeen Lions Club, the Coffeen city board, and served on the Coffeen Fire Department for 57 years. He coached softball and baseball and loved to bowl and do woodworking.

Mr. Grindley is survived by his wife; children Carl Grindley of Ferron, UT, and Dawn (husband John) Osborn of Coffeen; grandchildren Faith Grindley (fiance Jeff  Clark), Zach Grindley, Afton Grindley (fiance Kyler Wakefield), Shawnee (husband Dustin) Snow, and Gabe Osborn; great grandchildren Drayson Snow, Daxton Snow and Deegan Snow; brother Russell (wife  Jewell) Grindley of Lindenhurst; and sister Mary Tate of Chatham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, William Grindley, who passed away in 1976.
