Eldon Hoyt Greenwood, 91, of Chatham, died on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, at Concordia Village.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, at Butler Funeral Home, located at 8855 State Route 4 in Chatham. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, at Butler Funeral Home in Chatham, with the Rev. Gaylord Spilker officiating.

Mr. Greenwood was born on Jan. 11, 1933, in Bond County, to the late Maudie (Cook) and Hoyt Greenwood. He married Betty Jenne on June 22, 1955.

Mr. Greenwood earned a B.S. in Agriculture with honors in 1954 and an M.S. in 1957 from the University of Illinois. He served in the Air Force ROTC and in the United States Army. He spent his professional career as a Farm Manager and Trust Officer at Illinois National Bank until he retired in 1998.

Mr. Greenwood served his community through Kiwanis, Boy Scouts, his church and his interest in FFA. He was a founding member of the Board of Trustees for Lincoln Land Community College and considered it his passion for the rest of his life.

Professionally, he held the office of president of the Illinois Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers in 1974 and was named president of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers in 1985.  The state society awarded him their Hall of Fame Award in 1985, and the American society presented him with the D. Howard Doane Award in 1986.

Mr. Greenwood is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Gay (Rick) Kirkton and sons, Bruce (Kathy) and Dale (Nancy); grandchildren, Katie Kirkton, Thomas Kirkton, Grace Greenwood, Harrison Greenwood, Sydney Greenwood and Nick Greenwood; sister, Marilyn (Don) Blankenship and brother, Larry (Beverly) Greenwood; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Land Community College or Trinity Lutheran Church, Edinburg.
