Elmer P. Alexander, 89, of Fillmore, died on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

A private family visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Grace Fellowship Church in Fillmore. Private family funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Myron Kirk officiating. Interment with military rites will be held at Glendale Cemetery in Fillmore. Miller Funeral Home in Fillmore is assisting the family.

Mr. Alexander was born Aug. 6, 1931, in Madison, to Earl L. and Ethel Mae (Elliott) Alexander. He married Dorris Louise Toberman on March 1, 1953, in Fillmore, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2019.

He served in the U.S. Navy in Korea, and went on to work as an agent/operator-telegrapher for Norfolk Southern Railroad for 44 years.

Mr. Alexander was a member of the Irving Masonic Lodge and former member of Fillmore Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his sons, Neil (Denise) Alexander of Lincoln, Earl (Marcia) Alexander of Nokomis and Francis (Dawn) Alexander of Fillmore; daughters, Becky (David) Himes and Berta (Arno) McDowell, both of Fillmore; 13 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Alexander; and sister, Erma Carroll.

Memorials may be directed to Glendale Cemetery in Fillmore.
