Emma Reta Boucher, 94, of Litchfield, died on Friday, May 1, 2020.

She was born Sept. 7, 1925, on the Brown family farm in Bond County, to Ezra Oscar and Flowery Gertrude (Kimbro) Brown. She married Joseph H. Boucher on May 10, 1942, in Warrenton, MO, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2008.

Her daily life reflected her devotion as a wife to her husband and a mother to her family. She worked tirelessly on many projects–springtime meant planting potatoes, tomatoes and many other vegetables in her huge garden for canning and preserving.

Mrs. Boucher enjoyed sewing clothing and making quilts for her family and others. As a homemaker on eight acres, she will always be remembered for her attitude to tackle any job she set her mind to, from shingling a house or digging a cistern to chopping down trees with an ax.

She raised Pomeranian dogs for more than 60 years, and Ezra and Zipper were her fondest companions in her last years at home.

Mrs. Boucher was a member of Taylor Springs Baptist Church, and it was her hope for her family to know the Lord as their Savior. She taught Sunday School, served as PTA President at G.A. Sihler School in Litchfield, and worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield in the early 1950s. She deeply loved nature and was an active environmentalist.

She is survived by her four children, Frances (John) Currie of Cerro Gordo, Jo Ann (Tom) Currie, Rebecca (Glen) Cherry, both of Litchfield, and Joseph F. Boucher of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren, Paul Boucher, Amy (Chad) Currie Mullins, Brian Boucher, Julie (Jason) Currie Bronson, Sherman Boucher, Sharla (Shawn) Cherry Yurkovich and Thomas (Beth) Cherry; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 66 years, Mrs. Boucher was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruth Christin and Ruby Mueller; and six brothers, Milo Brown, Raymond Brown, Russell Brown, Roy Brown, Ralph Brown and Robert Brown.

Private graveside services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield with the Rev. Gary Stanford of Taylor Springs officiating. No visitation will be held. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is in charge of arrangements.
