Eugene Franklin Black, 97, of Litchfield, died on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 5:39 a.m. at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

A memorial visitation will be held Friday, May 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Private family graveside services will be conducted Saturday, May 25, beginning at 2 p.m. in Bethel Ridge Cemetery in Atwater.

Mr. Black was born April 27, 1922, in Anutt, MO, to Oliver Nichols and Lydia Jane (Stockstill) Black.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, serving during WWII, and took part in the 2011 Land of Lincoln Honor Flight. During his career, he worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Litchfield, from 1949 to 1975, and was head of maintenance at North Scott School District in Eldridge, IA, where he retired in 1984.

Mr. Black was a lifelong member of the Litchfield Moose Lodge #1634, and enjoyed gardening, being outside and repairing Lawn-Boy mowers.

He is survived by three sons, Gary (Patty) Black, Denny (Nancy) Black and Jason (Michelle) Black, all of Litchfield; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Black was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, William, Clarence "Aubrey", Clyde, James "Wilson" and George "Alvin" Black; and a sister, Thelma Pence.
