A private family Celebration of Life will be held in October. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is assisting the family.

Mrs. Brown was born Oct. 13, 1916, in Beardstown, the daughter of Joseph R. and Nellie (Vasconcellas) Martin. She married Clarence Edward "Deacon" Brown of Beardstown, and he preceded her in death. She later married James Elledge of Springfield, and he preceded her in death.

After graduation from Beardstown High School, she began a successful 42-year career with Illinois Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1976.

A woman of great faith, she was a member of the Beardstown Ladies Investment Club, Beardstown Womens' Club, the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Beardstown branch of the Community of Christ.

She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Lyons of Durango, CO and Cathy Carr of Litchfield; grandchildren, Douglas (Sherl) Lyons, Jr., Stan (Nicole) Lyons, Bradley (Inge) Lyons, M.D. and Michael (Renee) Sichlau, M.D.; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her marriage to her second husband, James, provided her with a wonderful second "stepfamily," which consisted of a son, Paul Elledge; daughters, Kay Wright and Nancy Elledge and their families.

In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Walker and Josephine Martin.

In her memory, commit a random act of kindness.
