Everett Carroll, 97, of Hillsboro, died at 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021, at the Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hillsboro.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 27, at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Randy Sands, pastor of the Free Methodist Church in Hillsboro, officiating. Burial will be at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Mr. Carroll was born on March 31, 1924, in Edmundson County, KY, to Emmett and Hannah (Saltzman) Carroll. He married Jacquelyn Singleterry on Dec. 22, 1949, in Butler. Mr. Carroll was a high school graduate and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1944. He worked as a farmer and a coal miner. He was a member of the Hillsboro Moose Lodge #1377, the Taylor Springs VFW and the Montgomery County Farm Bureau.

Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife; children, James (wife, Ruth) Carroll, Stanley Carroll, Tena (husband, John) Burris and Nancy Traylor; four grandchildren, Matt (wife, Jamie) Carroll, Sean (wife, Brandi) Traylor, Randi Traylor and Rachel Burris; and three great-grandchildren, Landen Carroll, Liam Traylor and Kolton Traylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Randy Carroll; his son-in-law, Steve Traylor; and his sisters, Ruby Buckles and Maggie Carroll.
