Everett E. Hickerson, 98

Everett Elonzo Hickerson, 98, of Litchfield, died on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, at 12:25 p.m. at Heritage Health: Therapy and Senior Care in Litchfield.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 31, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jon Magnusson of Beacon Church officiating. Burial will be held at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Due to CDC guidelines, social distancing and masks will be required.

Mr. Hickerson was born on May 14, 1922, near White Hall, to Philip Adolphus and Beulah June (Lenington) Hickerson. He married Mary Louise Claxon on Jan. 18, 1948, at Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield, and she preceded him in death on July 26, 2010.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, and was a Purple Heart recipient. During his time in the service, he was stationed at Guadalcanal, Phillipines and Papua New Guinea.

Mr. Hickerson was a machine operator at International Paper in Litchfield. In his earlier years, he worked with Allis-Chalmers in Springfield and Billiter’s Standard Service Station in Litchfield.

He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge #1634 in Litchfield, VFW Post 3912 in Litchfield and American Legion Post 436. Additionally, he was a member of the 40&8.

Mr. Hickerson enjoyed camping, fishing, duck hunting, playing cards and was a noted Pinochle player. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his brother, Gary (Barbara) Hickerson of Cape Coral, FL; sister, Roberta Boehler of Girard; two grandchildren, Sherry (Kenny) Bergschneider and Kevin (Stephanie) Hickerson, both of Litchfield; and four great-grandchildren, Michelle Claussen, Michael (Mark Coulter) Claussen, Michaela (Eric Gray) Bergschneider and Ashley Hickerson.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hickerson was preceded in death by his parents; son, Calvin Hickerson; daughter-in-law, Judy Hickerson-Borror; two brothers, Earl and Raymond Hickerson; and three sisters, Opal Smith, Lela Quigley and Irma Gardner.
