FCA Goes Virtual For This Year’s Power Camp

Over the last four years, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Power Camp has quickly become a summer staple for athletes in Litchfield and beyond, but this year’s free camp on Aug. 3-6 will be a little bit different.

“With everything going on this summer between COVID-19, state laws, not knowing when/if school will be back in person, and mostly health/safety concerns, we have decided for the South Central Area FCA, to do a virtual Power Camp,” camp organizers posted on Facebook. “Typically we have Power Camps in the Greenville, Litchfield and Pana areas, but because we want to follow guidelines and keep people safe, we found this to be a good way to interact with our kids and coaches.”

The theme for this year’s camp is “100%”, which refers to the parallels between sports and campers’ relationship with Jesus Christ, using a verse from Mark 12:30, “And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.”

You can learn more about the theme here: https://www.fcacamps.org/camp-theme-100.

Like the in-person camps, the virtual camp will have lessons on each theme. There are four days for the camp, so organizers will have four different people or churches share the Gospel with the FCA camp theme.

“We are going to have these daily theme messages each morning for our online campers (preferred, but not limited to, fifth grade and up) and ideally all join at one time to watch, listen, and interact,” the organizers said.

Eight to ten different sports will be offered, including baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball, track, golf and tennis. There will be four days of coaching videos for each sport. The coaching videos will be from area junior high, high school and college coaches and will focus on that day’s spiritual theme as well as drills to improve campers’ skills in their chosen sport. The online campers will be encouraged to try these drills outside while being safe.

The in-person campers in previous years typically only got to participate in one-two sports while at camp. This year, they have full access to these videos and can improve their skills and abilities in any/all sports they desire.

Registration is free and can be filled out at scilfca.org/camp. Campers who register by July 24, will receive a T-shirt and bible. Registration will be open until Aug. 2, but campers who register after July 24, are not guaranteed a T-shirt.
