It’s been a good summer for music, especially alumni of the Hillsboro Summer Concert Series.
Hounds won the reality show Who Will Rock You, while Old Salt Union saw their recent album hit #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart.
The final show of the season for the Hillsboro Summer Concert Series features an artist that has all the workings to reach the heights of “you saw them here first."
"Imagine Hillsboro Parks and Rec is happy to announce that Mathien will be hitting the stage at the 4th of July Point on Saturday, Sept. 7, and it will be a show you won’t want to miss!" said organizer Zach Wygal.
Indie artist/producer Mathien exists in a diverse world of intersecting styles and unique musical landscapes, which serve as a platform for his songwriting.
Born and raised in various Chicago suburbs, Mathien began releasing homemade tracks while in high school, eventually moving his lo-fi production studio into the resident halls of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
After much regional success as a live act, he was signed to Midwest Music Group and relocated to Chicago where he embarked on several US tours and recorded three albums.
In need of change, Mathien recorded, "Unique Man" in 2014, and moved to Tennessee, dropping the album as his first independent release since 2006's, "Head Heart and Hands."
The years that followed proved to be exceedingly productive for the artist, releasing several albums and beat tapes including, C.A.L.M, DoWhutNah?!, and The Freedom Tapes, which produced the infectious underground hit "Wurlitzer Crowley," which just hit 1,000,000 plays on Spotify this summer.
Also this summer, Mathien released his latest album "Burn the Friendly."
Today, Mathien works as a composer for film and television, while continuing to release albums and perform internationally.
Saturday’s show starts at 6 p.m., and guests are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to sit on, and they may also bring a cooler. Food will also be for sale as Imagine Hillsboro will be grilling out. Merchandise for the Summer Concert Series will also be for sale at a discounted price to help get rid of this year’s inventory.
