Fourth Inning Surge Pushes Cardinals Past Lincolnwood

A nine-run fourth inning helped the Pleasant Plains Lady Cardinals blow open a close game as they defeated Lincolnwood 17-1 on Tuesday, March 26.

The Lady Lancers were down 4-0 going into the bottom of the second inning, but cut the lead to three runs with a solo tally in the frame.

The score would remain 4-1 after a scoreless third inning, but Pleasant Plains exploded for nine runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach. The Cardinals would keep Lincolnwood off the board for their final two times to the plate, while adding four more runs in the fifth to finish off the 17-1 short-game win.

Sadie Slightom would have both of Lincolnwood's hits, going 2-for-2 with a double and a single. Slightom would also pitch for Lincolnwood, allowing 13 runs, only seven of which were earned due to five Lancer errors. She also struck out one and walked three.

Plains was led by Lacey Boltz, who was 3-for-3 with five runs batted in, and Alyia Oliver, who was 2-for-3 and had four strikeouts in three innings on the mound.

Lincolnwood is scheduled to host Ramsey on Friday, March 29, followed by a county clash with Nokomis on Saturday, March 30, at 11 a.m. in Raymond.
