Fowl Play Suspected In T.S. Chicken Deaths

When all of the healthy and well-cared for chickens in a closed pen in Taylor Springs died the same day, police suspect a possible crime.

The Taylor Springs Police Department responded to a residence on Grant Street in T.S. just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, after the resident returned home to discover all the chickens in a pen had died sometime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.  According to the T.S. Police Department, the chickens were healthy and well taken care of, the pen was completely enclosed, and there was no sign of a predator.

Samples have been sent to the University of Illinois for evaluation, and Montgomery County Animal Control is assisting in the investigation.

Police suspect someone came onto the property and tampered with the animals, and ask anyone with any information to contact Macoupin and Montgomery County Crimestoppers at 800-352-0136, or the Taylor Springs Police Department at 217-532-9511.
