Fowl Weather Doesn't Spoil 2019 Turkey Trot

Although it was a cold, soggy morning for the annual Turkey Trot 5K Run on Saturday, Nov. 30, that didn't keep runners and walkers from participating in the event. The run started at the Hillsboro Lions Club and continued west down Fairground Ave.

This fundraiser event benefits the Hillsboro Public Library's renovation at the future home of the library, located at 420 S. Main Street in downtown Hillsboro.

The overall winners in the male and female categories were Brian Quarton, who had a time of 20:11; and Debbie Atkins, who came in at 26:24. Quarton and Atkins were not only the overall winners, but were also the top male and female winners in the 41 to 50 age category.

In the 14 to 20 age category, the top male winner was Eli Atkins, with a time of 21:30; and the top female winner was Isabella White, with a time of 35:21.

Cole Deming, who had a time of 21:37 and Brittany Millburg, who came in at 36:47, were the top male and female winners in the 21 to 30 age category.

In the 31 to 41 age category, the top male and female winners were Chris Paproth, who had a time of 23:09; and Jessica Mellor, who had a time of 39:17.

The top male and female winners in the 50-plus age category was Kurt Hoehn, who came in at 22:33; and Rosemary Tuetken, who came in at 34:44.

As each winner's name was announced, a turkey was given to them to take home.

In addition to the proceeds that were earned, there were also several Gold Sponsors for the 5K event, and they were Country Financial (Greg Holcomb), Casey's General Store, Hillsboro Area Hospital, Thrivent Financial and Rehab Edge.
