Gail Elaine Stewart, 72, of Hillsboro, died on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at her residence.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturday, May 27, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Funeral mass will immediately follow at 12 noon with Father Daniel Willenborg, pastor of St. Agnes, officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery in Hillsboro. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Stewart was born on June 16, 1950, in Pana, the daughter of Warren and Nola (Hicks) Sanders, and her mother survives in Hillsboro. She was a 1968 graduate of Ramsey High School and later graduated business college. During her life, she lived in Ramsey and Hillsboro.
She married Dale Stewart on April 28, 1973, in Hillsboro, and he survives.
A secretary, she began her career with the state of Illinois, worked for 31 years at Coffeen Power Station, and six years at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office with Sheriff Jim Vazzi and Sheriff Rick Robbins. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, the Hillsboro Sports association where she served as secretary, and was 1971 Miss Downtown Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her son, Chad Stewart, on June 6, 2021.
