Gail L. (Neathery) Cruthis, 70, of Raymondville, TX, died on Saturday, June 13, 2020, surrounded by her husband and daughters at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, TX.

Mrs. Cruthis was born Feb. 15, 1950, in Highland, to Laurel Ernest and Vaughn Leona (Himes) Neathery. She married William Cruthis on Dec. 29, 1995, in Panama, and he survives.

Hailing from Sorento, she attended Bond County High School and graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1967. She attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville for two years following high school.

During her career, Mrs. Cruthis worked at the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, retiring in 2006. In retirement, she enjoyed reading, crochet, painting, taking care of her beloved pets Little Bill and Princess, and spending time with friends.

She was an active supporter of Shriners Hospitals and donated her crochet work to children and families in need. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and living in Illinois, Arkansas and Texas throughout her retirement.

In addition to her husband of over 24 years, Mrs. Cruthis is survived by her daughters, Annette (Chris) Poteet of Midlothian, TX, and Rhonda (Brian) Gregory of Hendersonville, TN; son, Clint Varner of rural Indiana; six grandchildren, Mindy (Adam) Paulson, Derek (Jamie) Tomlin, Aaron Poteet, Matthew Gregory, Brennen Gregory and Garrett Varner; and sisters, Cleda (George) Chesnut and Jessie Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and late husband Ronald Varner.
