Gale Marion Johnson, 85, of Huntsville, AL, formerly of Hillsboro, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, in Huntsville.

Private family services will be held (masks required) with burial at Nokomis Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Waples-Bauer Post #94, Nokomis American Legion.   Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home of Nokomis is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Mr. Johnson was born on Oct. 16, 1935, in Montgomery County, the son of Sarah (Forbus) and Richard Johnson.  He married Barbara Cole on May 20, 1961, in Nokomis; she preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 2020. 

Mr. Johnson graduated from Nokomis High School.  Following graduation, he enlisted and proudly served in the US military from 1954 to 1958. Mr. Johnson retired from the State of Illinois as a computer operations supervisor. After retirement he was a  volunteer at Bremer Sanctuary.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his children, Darrin Johnson of Huntsville, AL, and Gaylynn Skelnik of Bartlett; grandchildren, Hannah Johnson, Grant Johnson, Ben Johnson and Luke Skelnik.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and brother, Dale Johnson.
