Gale R. Scheller, 88


Gale Randle Scheller, 88, of Litchfield, formerly of Mt. Olive, died Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at 11 p.m. at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 1, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive with the Rev. James Ritter officiating. Burial was held in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Mt. Olive. Military rites were accorded by the Mt. Olive veterans.

Mr. Scheller was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Mt. Olive to the late Carl A. and Mable (Randle) Scheller. He married Dorothy Monke on Aug. 5, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 1992. He then married Joan Allen on June 19, 1993, at the Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield, and she preceded him in death on May 3, 2016.

He attended Mt. Olive schools and graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the class of 1948. 

An insurance agent, he founded Scheller Insurance with his father in 1949.

A member of the United States Army, he attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and chairman of the Boy Scouts Committee.

He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, square dancing and most of all traveling.

He is survived by four sons, James (Nadine) Scheller of Staunton, Randy (Rhonda McDaniel) Scheller of Springfield, Craig (Laurie) Allen of Gilbert, AZ, and Jim (Lori) Allen of Farmersville; two daughters, Janet (John) Rowe and Sandie Prehoda, both of Springfield; one brother, Gary (Pat) Scheller of Highland; one sister, Colene (Harold) France of Tulsa, OK; ten grandchildren, Christopher, Phillip, Matthew, Julie, Jennifer, Steven, Devin, Kelsey, Tucker and Kacie; six great-grandchildren, Chole, Owen, Madison, Riley, Trevor and Jacquelyn; friend, Dee Copley, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Joann Scheller of Florissant, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two wives.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Cemetery or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
