Geneva Mae Gardner, 92, of Newark, DE, died on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019.

 Mrs. Gardner was born on Jan. 18, 1927, to Wilbur and Sylvia (Loux) Nelson. She grew up during the Great Depression and her family moved through several states before settling in Irving in 1938. After graduating from Hillsboro High School, Mrs. Gardner went on to graduate from Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, MO. She married Richard E. Gardner in November of 1948, he preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 2000.

Mrs. Gardner was a homemaker and worked for 22 years in food services. She was cafeteria manager for the Christina School District in Newark, DE, and retired in 1989. Her family remembers her as hardworking and independent. Mrs. Gardner was a member of many social clubs throughout her life. She loved tending to her flowers and had many beautiful flower beds.

Mrs. Gardner is survived by her son, Scott (Peggy) Gardner of New Gloucester, ME; sisters, Margaret (Peg) Kessinger of Walshville, Faye Keitel of Shawnee, KS; son-in-law, Arthur Hanlon of Elkton, MD; nieces, DeeDee Seabaugh, Jackie Keitel, Sylvi Hoop, Tammy Bukowski and Shirley Watkins; and nephews, Danny Kessinger, Bobby Keitel, and Tim Watkins and Stan Watkins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; step-father, Amos P. Gilbert; daughter, Lynda Hanlon; sister, Gail Watkins; niece, Sandy Leverone; and nephew, David Kessinger.
