Gerald Rolland Rogers, 95, of Litchfield, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023 at 7:35 p.m. at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
Funeral services for Mr. Rogers will be held at Plummer Funeral Home Saturday, Sept. 9, at 12 p.m. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The Rev. John Vidakovich of St. Timothy United Methodist Church will officiate.
He was born in Litchfield on May 10, 1928, a son of Clay and Florence (Ellington) Rogers. He attended Litchfield schools, and proudly served his country during WWII. He was stationed in Guam in the South Pacific Theatre, and served on the U.S Navy aircraft carrier, Antietam. He and the former Fern Marie Hittmeier were married Nov. 14, 1948 in Mt. Olive, and she preceded him death on June 25, 2015.
Mr. Rogers was employed as a warehouse manager with McKay Auto Parts for over 45 years prior to retirement. He held memberships in St. Timothy United Methodist Church, Methodist Men’s Group, both in Litchfield and Mt. Moriah Lodge #51 A.F. & A.M., Hillsboro. Mr. Rogers enjoyed fishing and trail riding with his horse, Smokey. On May 10, 2011, he was chosen to travel to Washington, D.C on an Honor Flight.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his children, son Gary (Kathy) Rogers of Litchfield and daughter, Jane Rogers of Springfield; brother, Bob (Donna) Rogers of Litchfield; five grandchildren, Julie Rogers, Matt (Kerry) Rinker, Lauren (Jason) Baker, Bradley Titsworth, and Amanda Titsworth; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his step-mother, Ruth (Cayce) Rogers, and an infant identical twin brother.
Memorials may be made to Hearts United or the Litchfield Veteran’s Memorial Garden.
