Gertrude A. Wreath, 86

Gertrude Anna Wreath, 86, of Litchfield, died Tuesday morning, March 23, 2021, at 2:35 a.m. at Carlinville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Litchfield Family Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 28, at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Fred Kraemer officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. The service will be live-streamed on the Zion Lutheran Church Facebook page. CDC guidelines will be followed, and everyone is required to wear masks and social distance.

Mrs. Wreath was born April 12, 1934, in Litchfield, a daughter of the late Herman and Minnie (Beck) Ploczizka. She married LaVern W.D. Wreath on May 10, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, and he preceded her in death on March 29, 2019.

On April 29, 1934, she received the washing of regeneration through water baptism, and she confessed her faith in Jesus as her Lord and Savior at her confirmation on March 21, 1948, by the Rev. J.L. Strelow at Zion Lutheran Church. 

Mrs. Wreath was raised on the family farm. In her younger years, she was a member of 4-H, and she showed cattle at fairs and the local Dairy Days, where she met her husband.  A 1952 graduate of Litchfield High School, she worked for the late Dr. L.G. Allen, M.D. in Litchfield for over 50 years. 

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she served as the Sunday school superintendent for many years along with her husband. She was a member of the Zion Ladies Aid and was known for her Heidelberg soup. She also worked alongside her husband as a part-time school custodian. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and taking trips with her family to Branson, MO. She enjoyed gardening, canning, doing embroidery work on quilt blocks and making quilts for her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Wreath is survived by her daughters, Jane (Todd) Davidson of Litchfield and Janet (James, Jr.) Ferrero of Nokomis; son, James Wreath of Litchfield; and grandchildren, Emelia Ferrero of Nokomis and Lance, Paige and Cody Davidson of Litchfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
