The written word lasts: a well known quote from any professor of mass media journalism.
Luke 4:16-22 resonates a year round celebration of this truth: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord".
Those words were recorded in prophecy hundreds of years before Christ read them in proclamation of his fulfillment of them as being the Messiah.
Thank you to all who have ministered this year to those in prison, a mental health institution, a home or hospital room, or in any other public or private setting. Thank you to the ministers who recognized any person leaning forward in the pew, listening intently to the words being preached.
Godspeed to those whom had the courage and conviction not to wait for the next time that person came to church but rather reached out and followed up with a phone call, a text, or private time over coffee or lunch. Be encouraged that your time in an already overloaded schedule was not wasted. To anyone who was harshly criticized, condemned, or bore the brunt of animosity and separation not by choice–but to survive–the written word stands in its hope for all generations.
