It was a tough Tuesday for the Hillsboro girls tennis team as the Lady Hiltoppers fell to Greenville 8-1 at the Hillsboro Sports Complex on Sept. 3.
The Toppers' lone win came in singles play, where number five Torrence Clark defeated Emma Siefken 6-0, 6-3. There would be several other close matches, including a three set match between Hillsboro's Chloe Smail and Greenville's Heidi Summers, but Hillsboro would trail 5-1 entering doubles play.
While Greenville would sweep doubles as well, the Toppers' top team of Sheridan Schreiber and Lauren Lucykow challenged the Comets, leading early before falling 12-10 to Sarah Brannon and Summers.
With a loss to Triad added in from last Thursday, the Toppers were 0-3 entering Wednesday's match with Highland. Hillsboro will be back at home on Thursday, Sept. 5, when they take on East Alton-Wood River.
