Gregory S. “Poppi” Hatfill, 45, died at 6:23 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2020, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date. Cremation rites were accorded. Paynic Home for Funerals of Alton is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Hatfill was born on Sept. 5, 1974, in Litchfield, to Dwight Butch and June (Travis) Hatfill. He married Chad Sherwood on Oct. 16, 2010, in Alton. Mr. Hatfill was a Chicago Cubs baseball fan. He loved Christmas and was well known for his decorations.
Mr. Hatfill is survived by his husband; mother, June Hatfill of Staunton; stepson, Gregory Sherwood of Granite City; sister, Dawn (John) Claro of Gillespie; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; and his friends at Southwest Dialysis Center.
He was preceded in death by his father; maternal grandmother, Anna Travis; and paternal grandmother, Inez Hatfill.
