Hazel O. Edwards, 100, of Schram City, died on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at 12:50 a.m. at her residence.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 16, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Sands, pastor of Free Methodist Church of Hillsboro, officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Edwards was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Taylor Springs, to Knox and Amanda (Hamilton) Prewett. She married George W. Mills, Sr. in April 1935, in Hillsboro, and they later divorced. She then married Paul Leroy Edwards on Aug. 26, 1957, in Centralia, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1992.
She attended high school and obtained her real estate license.
During her career, Mrs. Edwards worked at Hillsboro Hotel, The Dress Factory, Hillsboro Glass Factory and Hillsboro Junior High School in the cafeteria. She and her husband Paul were owned and operated a liquor store and Edwards Real Estate and Insurance in Hillsboro.
She is survived by a son, George W. (Faye) Mills, Jr. of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Gary Lee Mills of Las Vegas, NV, Kim Dankoski of Jerseyville, Lisa Dye of Troy and Diane (Ben) Beeler of Hillsboro; six great-grandchildren, Ketch Mills, Adam (Meagan) Beeler, Brooke (Nathan) Lynch, Michael (Michelle) Dankoski, Chad Dye and Lucas Dye; and three great-great-grandchildren, Emersyn and Matthew Beeler and Karsyn Lynch.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by a son, Gary L. Mills; and five sisters, Carrie, Gerdy, Grace, Pearl and infant sister Armeda; and a brother, Ralph.
