Helen Faye (Shipman) Bergman, 76, of Harrisburg, died on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at 10:41 p.m. at Hillsboro Area Hospital.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 13, beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Sands, pastor of Free Methodist Church in Hillsboro, officiating. Burial will follow at Irving Cemetery.
Mrs. Bergman was born Jan. 17, 1947, in Hillsboro, to Hubert Leon and Rubye Gayle (Hankins) Shipman. She married James Bergman on Sept. 19, 1964, in Hillsboro, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2020.
During her career, she served as a waitress and an over-the-road truck driver. She lived in Hillsboro, Waltonville, Dowell and Harrisburg throughout her lifetime.
Mrs. Bergman loved to play and coach softball and enjoyed gardening and mushroom hunting. She loved her Chihuahua dogs, her grandchildren and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Richard Bergman of Creal Springs, Terry (wife Angela) Bergman of Harrisburg, Lora (husband Robert) Watson of Hillsboro and Judy (husband Mark) Black of Murphysboro; 19 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bergman was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Christina Watson; one great-grandson; and siblings, Charlotte Kay Shipman and Marion “Lee” Shipman.
