Helen Marie Kean, 86, of Springfield, formerly of Hillsboro, died on Friday, March 26, 2021, at 3:45 a.m. at Sturgill Hospice House in Brooksville, FL.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Glen VanderKloot officiating. Burial will be held at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Honey Bend. Due to CDC guidelines, social distancing and masks will be required.

Mrs. Kean was born Feb. 21, 1935, in Hillsboro, to Walter Don and Althea (Harmon) Abrams. She married Gilbert Kean on May 1, 1955, in Hillsboro, and he survives.

She graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1955, and went on to earn her associate’s degree at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

During her career, Mrs. Kean served as a secretary for the Illinois State Treasurer, as well as an insurance agent with John Hancock.

She was member of the Faith Lutheran Church (ELCA). She was an active member of both her church and community. She enjoyed spending time outdoors in flower gardens and loved spending time at the beach in Sarasota, FL. She always had a kind word and caring heart, and always thought of others before herself.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Kean is survived by her sons, Mark (Vickie) Kean of Springfield and Mike (Stacey) Kean of New Market, TN; daughter, Susan (Robert) Budds of Williston, FL; ten grandchildren, Melody (Joshua) Meyer, Miranda (Andy) Stewart, Melissa (Jeb) Sanders, Michael (Holly) Kean, Maggie Kean, Jeremy Budds, Jonathan Budds, Jennifer (David) Simic, Kate Beckett and Rebecca (Brian) Lipsmire; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Robert and Jack Abrams.
