Henry Lincoln Tipton, 94, of Girard, died on Monday morning, Jan. 6, 2020, at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Virden.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard. Private family burial will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 11, with full military rites.

Mr. Tipton was born May 7, 1925, in Girard, to Howerton and Nettie (Whitler) Tipton. He married Lois M. Weddle on May 12, 1946, in Girard, and she preceded him in Nov. 21, 2019.

He graduated from Girard High School with the class of 1943. 

After graduation, Mr. Tipton served his country as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. During his service time, he served in Iwo Jima, Guam, Saipan and the Marianas Islands. Upon his return from WWII, he married his wife.

He was a lifelong farmer in the Girard area until his retirement in 1994. He also served as a veterinary assistant, as well as a Macoupin County deputy sheriff.

Mr. Tipton was a member of the American Legion, National Sheriff's Association, VFW Girard Unit, Girard Sunset Lake Association, Girard Volunteer Fire Department, Carlinville Area Hospital Board for 20 years, Girard Band Booster and attended the Girard Church of the Brethren. He was the oldest member of the Girard High School Alumni Association.

He is survived by his son, Lt. Col. (USAF Ret.) Charles L. Tipton of Bel Air, MD; two daughters, Catherine L. Walch-Jackson of Litchfield and Barbara A. Musser of Greenville, OH; seven grandchildren, Cheryl D. Whitman, Curtis D. Walch, Timothy D. Ferguson, Aaron T. LeCount, Emily J. Tipton, Roger B. Rudy and Benjamin R. Rudy; several great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Elbert Harold, George Whitler and John Beeby Tipton.
