Lincolnwood senior Sydney Herman has been one of the Lancers' top performers all season. On Thursday, Oct. 10, that consistent success was awarded as Herman grabbed a spot in the sectional tournament via her performance at the Williamsville Regional.
Herman carded a 102 at The Rail in Springfield to take one of ten individual qualifier spots from those players not on an advancing team. Shooting a 55 on the front nine and a 47 on the back nine, Herman's round was tied for seventh best among those players and was tied for 19th best overall.
She wasn't the only one from her family to make it to sectionals though, as her brother, Sam, also advanced to Monday's next round with the Lincolnwood boys golf team. The Lancers had hopes of making it to sectionals as a team, but a tough field brought those hopes to an end.
Springfield's Sacred Heart-Griffin took the top spot with a 339, while Rochester (385) and Auburn (391) grabbed the other two qualifying spots.
Lincolnwood would finish seventh in the 11 team tourney with a 452. Williamsville (404), Litchfield (425) and Jerseyville (431) would be ahead of them, in addition to the top three. Williamsville would have the medalist for the day, junior Faith Davis with an 81, after Davis beat out Sofia Lowis of Sacred Heart-Griffin and Karlie Schnepp of Rochester on the second hole of a playoff.
Jordyn Gerlach would nearly join Herman as a sectional qualifier as she shot a 109 to finish 25th overall. Gerlach was just four strokes away from the final qualifying spot, held by Litchfield's Carly Guinn with a 105, as she shot a 54 on the front nine, then a 55 on the back.
Dorie Krager would be Lincolnwood's third scorer with a 118, shooting rounds of 53 and 65, while Stephanie Perun had the other scoring round with a 123, shooting a 61 on the front nine and a 62 on the back half of the course.
Both Micah Gehlbach and Shelby Hattenbach made their first appearances at a regional tournament. Gehlbach shot a 63 on the front and a 67 on the back for a 130, while Hattenbach shot a 75 on the front and a 71 on the back for a 146.
Herman at Sectionals
Herman's finish moved her on to the Jacksonville Routt Sectional on Monday, Oct. 14, at the Jacksonville Country Club.
Unfortunately, she wasn't able to grab one of the ten individual qualifying spots, the last two of which went to Auburn's Ellie Knight and Bismark-Henning-Rossville-Alvin's Allison Tucker with a pair of 88s.
Sacred Heart-Griffin would take the team title with a 332, while Macomb and St. Thomas More were the other two advancing teams with a 340 and a 341. St. Thomas More's Alaina Bowie would take medalist honors with a 73.
