It was senior night for the Hillsboro golf team on Tuesday, Sept. 22, and one of the members of the class of 2021 made the most out of his time in the spotlight.
Tad Daniels, who was honored prior to the start of Tuesday’s match at the Hillsboro Country Club, earned medalist honors for the match with a 3-over-par 36. Daniels, one of three seniors on the golf team who were recognized, along with Anna Colwell and Shaw Riggs, helped the toppers to a 173 as a team, good enough to beat Carlinville by seven strokes and Litchfield by 16.
In addition to Daniels, Hillsboro also got a 42 from Drake Vogel, a 45 from Dillon Smail and a 47 from Devin Speiser. Dom Haggard and Preston Lyerla took over the fifth and sixth spots for Coach Jim Luckett’s club, shooting rounds of 50 and 51 respectively. In the JV ranks, Riggs put up a solid 54, while Austin Loskot and Hayden Titsworth also stayed in the low 50s with a 53 and a 51 respectively.
While the day belonged to Daniels, the Litchfield Purple Panthers continued to build on their youth movement, with two freshmen and a sophomore in their top four. Freshman Tug Schwab led Litchfield with a 44, while sophomore Zach Boston and freshman A.J. Odle were just a stroke behind with a pair of 45s.
Cam Frerichs, Ian Otto and Ryan Baugher all tied for the fourth scoring round as all shot 55s for their nine holes. Senior Hayden Brown also played a JV round for the Panthers, shooting a 56.
The Litchfield boys will be back on the course tonight, Sept. 24, against Greenville and Staunton at the Greenville Country Club, while Hillsboro will be off until Tuesday, Sept. 29, when they join the Panthers and others at the South Central Conference Tournament at Indian Springs Golf Course near Coffeen.
