Hillsboro Boys Golf Sweeps At Carlinville

The Hillsboro boys golf team picked up two more wins in their final match of the season as they defeated Carlinville and Southwestern on Sept. 28.

Playing on the Cavies’ home course at the Carlinville Country Club, the Toppers shot a 163 to beat the home team by seven strokes. The Piasa Birds would take third, finishing with a 218.

Carlinville’s Henry Kufa finished first with a 35, but Hillsboro’s Dom Haggard and Dillon Smail were close behind. Haggard had six pars and a birdie on the par-5 sixth hole to finish with a 38, while Smail had six pars and a birdie on the par-5 second hole to finish with a 39.

Hillsboro’s other two scoring rounds were in the low 40s, with Preston Lyerla carding a 42 and Drake Vogel adding a 44. All told, Hillsboro would hold four of the top six individual scores.

The Toppers’ fifth and sixth men would also shoot solid rounds, with Tycen Thacker carding a 47 and Austin Loskot finishing with a 50.

The wins gave Hillsboro a 10-6 record for their tournament-heavy regular season schedule.
