Hillsboro Football Hands Out Awards

Members of the Hillsboro High School football family gathered on Monday, Nov. 4, for the Toppers' annual awards banquet.

Coach Aaron Duff and his staff handed out awards to this year's team leaders, both statistically and in other areas on and off the field.

On defense, Jackson Hamby earned the top tackler award with 74 tackles this season. Hamby, who had eight tackles last year as a sophomore, also earned the Most Improved Player award and was one of three players to earn the defensive scout team award, along with Andrew Law and Curtis Segrest.

Other defensive awards went to Jace Tuetken for most interceptions (three), Zinnen Kenney for most sacks (two) and Dom Bates, Ian Malloy and Curtis Segrest for most fumble recoveries (one each).

On offense, Joey Lipe earned recognition for the most points scored (44) and the most receiving yards (122). Lipe also earned the special teams player award, with 253 yards on kick returns, and was named the team's MVP.

Jonah Harkins would pick up the award for most rushing yards with 794, while Brett Cunningham had the top blocking percentage for the Toppers. Harkins would also earn this year's Hustle Award.

Three players, Cooper Holcomb, Joseph Keiser and Bryce Connor, would earn offensive scout team awards, while four players earned Topper Spirit Awards. Those four were Hayden Pfeifer, Gavyn Roberts, Blake Clark and Skyler Edrington
