Four Montgomery County seniors were among the 15 players on this year's South Central Conference all-conference boys basketball teams, as selected by the coaches of the SCC.
Both Hillsboro and Litchfield would have two players on the first team and two players on the third team after the county squads both finished in the top three in the conference standings. Litchfield would be second to 9-0 Greenville with a 7-2 mark, while Hillsboro was tied for third with Pana at 6-3.
Hillsboro’s Jordan Gregg and Sam Painter would both earn first team recognition, joining Jack Armstrong of Pana, Blake Morrison of Vandalia and Chad Stearns of Greenville. Painter, a third team pick last year, was one of the conference’s top scoring threats with 19.2 points per game and team-best averages in rebounds (7.0) and assists (4.0). Gregg, a first time honoree in basketball who has also been all-conference in baseball, wrestling and football, led Hillsboro with 11.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.
Keaton Pruett of Hillsboro and Ethan Washburn of Litchfield would join Painter and Gregg on the all-conference squads, earning third team recognition for the first time in their careers. Pruett was second in scoring with 10.4 points per game and was second in assists and steals for the Toppers as well. Washburn was third in points for the Panthers with 8.7 per game, while also contributing 5.3 rebounds per game.
The three all-conference teams consisted of nine seniors, three juniors and three sophomores, with Greenville leading the way with three honorees. Litchfield, Hillsboro, Pana and Roxana would all have two honorees each, while Vandalia, Staunton, Southwestern and Gillespie had one apiece.
